Valencia – tries hard but doesn’t seem like he can make it at this level.
For a while I thought it was a lack of confidence and once a goal or two went in he’d start flying but no – he struggles every game now.
Very pacy and a hell of a shot, but just doesn’t seem to get in the right position or have the ability to take players on and get past them effectively to make it count.
Shame but I don’t think he’s got what it takes to be a striker in the prem.

If you are going to play him centrally up front having to piggyback Nolan around the pitch you might as well sell him now. He and Sahko both having had a season of learning could do things together. I still think the jury is out. I think after 20 odd games at Arsenal Thierry Henry was referred to by their fans as the French Perry Groves. He isn't going to be that good but I wouldn't kill him just yet.

Jury is still out as far as I am concerned. I don't believe the Chelsea story for one moment - can't see that they would consider him to be good enough.
Yes, it's absolutely true that the oaf in charge of the club does not usually play to his strengths - he looked much better when playing up front with Sakho. But for me, more often than not, his decision-making is terrible and he is always losing possession. Then on the odd occasion he looks frighteningly good. Wish he would make up his mind which player he is.

That blank expression is an interesting point. I've been worried about him mentally since Swansea away, when he made the wrong choice and (rightly) Nolan had a go at him. Straight after, he got in a good position and Nolan made a point of trying to gee him up, but he just didn't look interested - stroppy, demotivated, take your pick. Ever since then, he has seemed to lack any confidence or drive. I was actually quite positive against Chelsea at home when he got clattered and was clearly angry, as at least he was showing some emotion and I thought it might bring him out of himself again. Sadly, it didn't seem to work.

Bit they were re-united for a few games after AC broke down again and were poor. One goal between them I think.

Was saying this from the start. For me he's an impact wide player suitable for coming off the bench when we are trying to hit teams on the break. Thats not enough from a guy with his value. So id sell him. But, it would be nice to see a bit more of him with Sakho. For me, the difference was the threat that the pace of both of them caused out wide. Balls down the channels really put full backs undre pressure and we got a lot of possession from poor clearances under pressure.

What I find worrying about this fella is that he wears this neutral/blank expression that gives the impression that he doesn't really know what's going on out there. This was always a gamble anyway.

He isn't good enough, doesnt score enough goals and has awful decision making...constantly running down blind alleys and too lightweight in the centre of the field
Anything over £10 mil and get rid in the summer there is better available for that money

As mentioned before, he was a winger up until a couple of seasons ago and then moved up front with his club and Ecuador (after the death of Christian Benitez in the latter case) and seemed to excel, but I wonder whether the step up to the Premier League in a position which is not natural for him may be a step too far and that he may benefit from dropping a bit further back again. The Mexican league and even international football are both very different in terms of physicality, and up front maybe more so than in any other position.
I like him because he does at least try to run out with the ball when we are under pressure, but clearly we need to see a bit more end product next season. I do think it's too early to pass judgement and that we may well regret not giving him more of a chance if he is moved on in the summer. If the Chelsea link is anything other than paper talk (remember when they and Arsenal were supposedly after Diame?) then they must think there's something there more than we are seeing, and they're not bad judges

Still sitting on the fence myself, at times he has terrible performances with not much end game.
Having said that, the goals he scored showed the mark of true technique and skill with feet and his head. I would like to see the sakho partnership back or a new manager work with him before passing judgement. Like previously mentioned before, took Carlos Tevez at least half a season to get going!

It's diffulcult to judge a player in any other way other than what you see on face value, and so far that has been disappointing, particuarly for the outlay. It's all very well saying he will be better next season, but we don't know that for sure.

It's his first season in the Premier League.
I think we'll see a lot more from him next year (if he is used correctly).

We will regret it if Valencia moves elsewhere. The lad is brave, quick, has a decent shot, is good in the air, and has a very good fitness record. He tends to snatch at easy chances but he will come good if he stays at WHU.

I think given a better manager, you will see a decent player.

Lily Stoke away burnley away Liverpool at home and like you said city at home ....basically like I said all the games that put us 3rd Even later in the season I think him and sakho started up top to Man Utd at home and spuds away where we played so well He's not built to play up top on his own and although I think he'd do well wide in a 433 we don't olay like that as Saturday showed against a bottom of the league dogshit team with 10 men we still stuck to 451 I don't think he's set the world on fire but I think he's done well for his first season you only need to look at how Tevez took to settle getting played all over the shop until he got put down the middle with Zamora to play off and he's a world class player....I'm not saying Valencia is half the player Tevez was but they'd both come here from similar leagues

No he plays centrally for Ecuador but used to be a winger. I suspect the main difference is that strikers are expected to move around in south America but play up against CBs under SA.

Doesn't he play on the left for Ecuador? Isn't that where he scored hus golas against us and in the WC. I don't get why he's not playing there and Downing on the left or centre.
Oh wait I know why. We have an imbecile of a manager.

I remeber the screamer against Hull, and him cutting it back for Amalfitano to tap in v Man City, and a couple of other goals, but I can't say I remember him doing so much, not like Sakho. He ran around a lot and didn't give the defenders chance to relax, which helped the team, but even when playing with Sakho, he has more often than not made poor choices when in promising positions.
I'm not knocking him, just saying it how it's been. I actually reckon next season his head will be all the better for this first season. I only hope it's for us and not the likes of fucking chelsea!

Re: Valencia

Lilly He was superb in a two with a four man midfield playing fast attacking football Then nolan and carrol came back and we changed to a 451 with Valencia playing wide and we started banging long diagonal balls to suit those two instead of playing to the strengths of the players that got us to 3rd in the league Obviously they won't say it but I bet there's plenty in that squad that can't wait for him to be gone

I wouldn't deny any failures of the manager. He has failed to win over the fans, for a start, after all these years of finishing roughly on par with realistic expectations. He's failed at loads of things.
i was merely pointing out that, regardless of tactics, Enner has found himself in promising positions countless times, and more often than not, he lost the ball due to indecsion or poor choices. It was good to see him look up and play the right ball for once.

Lily you wouldn't admit to any management failures even if they slapped you in the face.
The reality probably is that SA was presented with a player chosen by Tony Henry. SA only knows one way to play attacking football - over his dead body. The evidence is there as plain as the nose on your face mate...
